Who we are

More and more, Berlin is flooded with hotels that call themselves „Designer Hotel“. On closer inspection, however, it is noticeable that the so-called „design“ is often boring, uniform and even cheap. Take a look at our photos and you will see that The Dude carries the name „Designer Hotel“ rightfully - and with style.

With approximately 30 rooms, we are indeed a very small house. It is our extreme luxury that makes us a very special place. There are only a handful of hotels in the world where you can find such a small number of rooms alongside exquisite and highly luxurious facilities, an intimate atmosphere and gourmet food around the clock.

Many hotel lobbies look more like airport terminals or train stations than welcoming reception areas. Take the architectural details and the interior design and experience our exceptional service, and you‘ll find that The Dude is more like a private mansion than a stop-over place for just anyone. The Dude is a place where you can feel at home or as though visiting good friends: hospitality with soul - stay sentimental!

Sophisticated and discerning restaurant goers and hotel guests have probably often experienced what I, Alexander Schmidt-Vogel, the owner, have myself observed again and again: that hotels and restaurants run by their owners are a world apart from management-run establishments. They are warmer, friendlier and simply better. You will see me and my right hand, Britta Bettendorf, at the hotel every day - since we are your hosts, we want to make sure personally that your wishes are fulfilled. In this, we have brought to The Dude all the things we have missed on our own travels: it is our dream of a hotel! When you see us, you can call us „the Dude“ and „Moneypenny“, your caring hosts.

It is our belief that guests can only feel happy and contended when they are served from the very first to the very last moment of their stay - in fact, when they are personally looked after and pampered around the clock, almost as though they would be when visiting good friends. Our luxurious and inviting rooms, our salon, our gourmet food made only from the freshest ingredients - all these things are part of your experience at The Dude - Luxury living at a friend‘s home: soulful hospitality.

If some hotels are nothing more than „sleeping machines“, then their employees are nothing more than „robots“. We took our time and finally succeeded in finding not just cordially caring hosts, but also very interesting personalities, whom you will meet at the hotel and who will do everything to make your stay a memorable and sentimental one.

Six months before opening the doors to the hotel for the first time, we launched the Brooklyn Beef Club. Situated in the same building, it is an entirely new type of restaurant, highly praised by food critics and fully booked on most days. The Brooklyn Beef Club is a world-class embassy for New York Steaks: according to many of our guests, it serves the best steaks in Berlin. Alongside its classic American cuisine, exceptional wine list, 160 open and very rare whiskies, the New York atmosphere at the Brookly Beef Club makes for a very special experience.

Stale cheese, rubbery eggs and dry slices of ham are the sad staple of many hotel breakfast buffets. At the Schmidt‘s Deli Deluxe, we prepare your breakfast fresh every day and according to your individual taste. You pay only for what you ordered: whether it is a just quick croissant with a steaming espresso or the full spectrum of our sandwiches and egg dishes. Schmidt‘s Deli Deluxe is open all day for your convenience. And we serve breakfast daily even until 1pm!

We kindly ask all our guests to use the doorbell of the hotel. In this way, we can ensure that you will feel completely private and that unwelcome onlookers and troublemakers remain outside. We call this the „Peacefulness of Locked Doors“.
